Creating a Blog

Posting an article is easy! But you’ll need to create a blog to do that.

Your blog will become home to all your future articles. It’s where your fans will find your work. Ready to make one?

First, make sure you are logged in.

In the header section of the homepage, you’ll see a colorful avatar placeholder–or your own profile image if you’ve uploaded one already–just to the left of your username in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

Blog step 1

Clicking it will take you straight to your profile, the home for everything about you.

From here, locate the Create your profile link, or alternatively, the gray EDIT PROFILE button on the left-hand side of your screen.

They’re just below your name and photo, if you’ve already uploaded one.

Blog step 2

This will take you to the edit profile page.

The first thing you’ll see here is an area to upload your profile image. Now’s a great time to do so if you haven’t had a chance yet, just click the Upload Photo button and select the image from your device. You can always do this later if you don’t have a photo readily available.

Next, select the Create Blog button.

After you click this, a lightbox will appear.

Blog step 4

In the lightbox, you can name your blog in the Site Title field.

Be sure to pick  something interesting that you think would entice readers. Not sure what to go with? Here are some tips for titling your content for maximum impact.

When you’ve decided what to call your blog, pick a short URL based on that name.

You can also use your surname. Just make sure it’s short and easy to remember.

Don’t forget to come up with a Tagline.

It functions as a subtitle, or an indication of what topics your blog might cover. If you use good keywords here, it helps Google help others find your content better.

Lastly, pick your favorite color from the dropdown menu.

This will be the color scheme of your site. Keep in mind that you don’t have to spend too much time worrying about the name and the aesthetics of your blog, as you can always go back and change it later if you want.

When you’re satisfied with your choices, click the Create New Blog button. You’ll then be redirected to your new blog’s dashboard, where you might encounter a Yoast SEO update notification.

To see your blog’s homepage, click Visit Your Site on the left-hand panel.

Blog step 5

In the Meta description field, include the keyword or phrase in a quote from the article or in an ad hoc description about the article.

Note: Some social media sites such as Google+ will use what’s written in the Meta description field as a description of the article along with the title when shared — so make sure it’s a sentence or phrase, and not just a keyword.
